The Festival falls on Oct,5-10,the best season for tourists. Baoding people has a tradition of respecting the aged and caring the young, so the name of this festival in Chinese is also called "the Festival of Respecting the Aged and Keeping Fit".
One group needs special mentioning. The group from Quebec, Canada. In Quebec, there is a similar festival called "Senior's Fair ", and these two festivals have established a sisterhood relationship since 1993. This year, there are 102 Canadians attending this festival, they were warmly welcome by the Chinese.
The Mayor of Baoding announced the opening of 2002's Festival, Chinese and Foreign Healthy Personnel's were elected and Certificates were presented by the officials issued by the government. The coming visitors were treated with a performance, including health-building dances by the Seniors and local operas. Visitors were also invited to visit the local family, a program that is widely welcome by the foreign visitors. In the evening, a banquet was held by the Mayor of Baoding for the visitors. In the early morning the next day, people attend a morning exercise. Hundreds upon hundreds of people were doing tremendous kinds of exercises in the park, in order to keep fit. The most welcome may be the Taiji, the singing, the rotating of Ironballs.
It is believed that more people are coming the next years festival.
