                     Zhili Provincial Governor's
Office Museum

       Baoding used to be the capital of Zhili Province, an ancient name for Hebei Province, from 1730 to 1911, and this Governor's Office worked as the working and residing place of the governor and his family. From 1911 to 1949, this compound served as the governmental office of Hebei Province. Since 1988, this group of buildings are turned into a museum.
      Zhili Province was the only province that surrounded the capital, the Qing Dynasty's emperors thought highly of the governors in Baoding. Usually it was the emperor chose his favorite official to be the governor.
     This governmental office building is composed of three parts, the middle part, where most of the building were built, the eastern side and the western side part. What is now opened to the public is the middle part.
     From the southern end to the northern end, along the central axle, there are: the front gate, the ceremonial gate, the main hall, the second hall, the third hall and the fourth hall. The main hall and the second hall were the governor's office, the third hall and the fourth hall were used as the residential purpose.
